Lately I’ve been noticing a buzz about employee engagement. What is it? And does it matter? Forbes says: “Employee engagement is the emotional commitment the employee has to the organization and its goals.”1
In fact employee engagement is very important and its benefits can be quantified. Gallup and Forbes have statistics which demonstrate that. “This emotional commitment means engaged employees actually care about their work and their company. They don’t work just for a paycheck, or just for the next promotion, but work on behalf of the organization’s goals.” 2
Here are just some of the benefits of employee engagement:
- Increased productivity, individual and team
- Increased retention, decreased turnover, absenteeism, stress levels, and burnout.
- Increased meaningful contributions to business objectives 3
Productivity. Objective results. Meaningful contributions. “Team members who believe in the vision are what you need to take you there. And they will when they’re engaged in their work and aligned with your strategy”.4
. Here is a visual to consider:
3 Engaged 5 Disengaged 2 Sabotaging
Imagine if just two or more employees joined the green team in your business ‘pirogue’!
Engaged employees “take personal responsibility without making excuses. Loyal, productive, innovative and entrepreneurial, they consistently create value and treat their customers like gold.” 6
